Workbooks

Each Pupil’s Book lesson is accompanied by one or two pages of Workbook activities where language points introduced in the Pupil’s Book are practised and consolidated. The Workbooks also contain exercises encouraging study skills, alphabet work and dictionary skills, categorisation, punctuation and capitalisation. There are exercises dealing with spelling, principally the spelling on long and short vowel sounds, common word endings and ‘magic’ ‘e’. Each unit also contains a variety of writing exercises which lead children from controlled writing practice to free composition work.

There is a short practice test in every fifth Workbook unit which consolidates the language points revised in every fifth unit of the Pupil’s Book.

Grammar Practice Books

A series of six write-in workbooks which are focused specifically on the grammar taught in Way Ahead. As with the course, the Grammar Practice Books are arranged in 20 units. Each unit provides extra practice on the grammar taught in the equivalent unit in the Pupil’s Book.

Each level of Way Ahead is supported by a set of 3 Readers. These include poetry, fiction, fact and drama.

• The Readers cover a wide variety of styles and genres to give a ‘real book’ feel
• Lower level Readers are carefully controlled to match vocabulary and structures learned in the course
• Additional drama Readers at Levels 1-3
• Additional factual and poetry Readers at Levels 4-6
