This is a fabulous site for kids. They can look at the history of many different cultures, including the Vikings and Celts. There are pictures and lots of information.

The Nile

This site provides very good information about what is ‘possibly the most famous river in history’. The reading passage is well written and informative and there are good photos which support the text.

This site is a great source for information about Ancient Egypt. There are many wonderful photographs and images. It features quizzes, activities, mask making, and much more.

Explorers

This site contains well-written information about famous explorers and also provides some wonderful ideas for activities related to the texts and quizzes which can be marked online so students can get immediate results. In addition, the site provides links to worksheets about the explorers which can be printed and used in class.

Sports & equipment

This site contains lots of information about sports which are played all over the world. It provides details about the history of the sports, the rules, some fun facts, the equipment and the players. The site gives information about lesser known sports so could be useful for a class project.

Environment and school.

This site contains information about how to be environmentally friendly and what other schools have done in the quest to reduce pollution. There is a section specially for kids which contains ideas for activities and experiments and provides good information about what they can do to become more environmentally friendly.

Here students can learn about famous inventors and inventions. The text is interesting and could easily be adapted for class use as a reading comprehension.

This is a more far-reaching site about inventions and inventors. There is information about the invention of things like pottery, the wheel, the calendar, toothpaste and paper. Each invention has a link to further sites about that topic.

Greek legends

This site contains stories about famous gods and goddesses, monsters and heroes who appear in Greek Mythology. Students should look at the homework help page.

Endangered animals

This is a link to the site of the World Wildlife Fund on which students can learn about the world’s endangered species and what is happening to try to reduce the threat of extinction. There is a section of the site dedicated to children on which there are quizzes and games which they can play.

Treasure

This is a fun site where students can learn all about treasure island. There is a section called ‘things to do’ which contains lots of suggestions for students to actively participate in learning about treasure islands. They can design a pirate, do a book review, provide feedback and do a quiz. In addition, there is a section for teachers which has been specially designed so the class can participate in an extended project.

Oceans & Seas

On this site, students can learn all about the Earth’s oceans and seas. They can discover why the ocean is blue and what causes waves. There are ocean animal printouts which can be coloured and used as a class display.

Dinosaurs

This is a site which provides information about dinosaurs. The texts and pictures are designed for students of all levels, and there are some very good diagrams and illustrations to support the text. The site is graded, so weaker students will be able to understand the information and get as much out of it as stronger students. The site is extensive, and includes links to print outs, ideas for dinosaur crafts, quizzes, reports, classroom resources and so on.
